Event Details

It’s hard to lift a coffee table magazine or go into a grocery shop without seeing some reference to the importance of honey bees.

We invite you to join us on Wednesday 15th June at 7:30pm for an online seminar where we will be joined by David Bolton and Noel McAllister of the Fermanagh Beekeepers Association, who will outline the life of the honey bee and the key role they play in propagating trees and flowers and how the Association is leading the way in the research and preservation of wild honey bees in Fermanagh.

Our guest speakers will take you on a journey from flower to honey pot, detailing what a hive looks like and how honey is harvested from the hives. You will learn how Fermanagh Beekeepers are looking after their bees and the future prospects for bees in the region.

Fermanagh has an important population of honey bees that live wild without any input from beekeepers. You will have the opportunity to learn about the fascinating and innovative honey bee research project, The Fermanagh Wild Bee Project which is being undertaken by the Fermanagh Beekeepers in partnership with National University of Ireland Galway.  The project began in 2018 by the Association and David and Noel will discuss how, through this project the Association are able to learn more about this fascinating species and are now embarking on a project that enables them to breed bees, that are both suited to the climatic conditions and have the ability to withstand some of the health threats bees are currently facing across the globe.

We will look forward to welcoming you for an evening talking about bees.  What else is there to talk about of an evening?
