Virtual Seminar: Unlocking the Hidden Worlds of the Lough Erne Landscape

In the second of our Reading the Landscapes of Lough Erne seminars, we take a look at the unique hidden landscapes of Lough Erne and the secrets that they hold.

Landscapes are unique places which have been shaped by many influences over time, and none more so than the unique landscapes of Lough Erne. Joined by guest speaker Martin O’Neill join us from your armchair as we delve into the many layers of the hidden Lough Erne landscape and unleash the amazing and unique stories they have to tell.

  • Where does all this water come from?
  • What creatures great and small call this landscape their home?
  • How have we moulded this landscape?
  • Who exactly are these mythical creatures who lurk under the surface of the Erne?

Join us on our exploration of this hidden world and gain an insight into this unique landscape and the stories it holds.

Speaker – Martina O’Neill

Martina first joined the Marble Arch Caves UNESCO Global Geopark in 2009 and she has occupied many roles over the years, all with a strong focus on International, National and Locally funded projects.

Her current role is Development Officer – Partnerships & Engagement in the newly formed cross border Global Geopark team where she has overall responsibility for wider stakeholder and community engagement, education and activity programmes, research and volunteering programmes across the Global Geopark area in West Fermanagh and West Cavan and in 2019, she was accepted as an evaluator on the UNESCO Global Geoparks Evaluation team.

Prior to working in the Geopark she worked as the Biodiversity and Environment Officer for Fermanagh and Omagh District Council. Martina is very passionate about all facets of our heritage and is very fortunate to be able to live, work and play in spectacular landscapes of the Marble Arch Caves UNESCO Global Geopark!
